GSH Observership Programme for Health

Global Learning. Local Excellence. Africa’s Premier Clinical Experience.

Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) is globally recognised for its clinical excellence and historic medical firsts. In 2026, the GSH Trust will launch a pilot Observership Programme to offer qualified international healthcare professionals the chance to observe GSH in action from ward rounds to trauma theatres in a structured, non-clinical setting.

This opportunity is distinct from UCT’s academic electives and is aimed at independent, qualified professionals.

The Observership Programme launches in 2026 with Phase one.

Applications for the following departments will be considered in Phase one:

- Orthopaedic Department

- Trauma Surgery

There are plans to expand to additional specialties in future phases.

Please enquire below if you do not see the department that you are interested in listed.

Who Can Apply

- Letter of support from home institution

- Medical qualification

- Regulatory registration

- Travel medical insurance

Why It Matters
